Michael Goodwin's many friends have know him for a long time and firmly believe in his innocence. They have continued to support him throughout his horrific ordeal of being falsely accused and convicted of the murders of Mickey and Trudy Thompson. It is our hope and dream that justice will prevail. Michael's situation is very precarious due to lack of funds, but we are all still very hopeful. Visiting Michael

For those contemplating a visit to Michael, make sure you are cleared for visitation in advance. Ask Michael to send you the forms for you to submit. The clearance is good for 2 years, but you will not be turned away if you have not updated your form.

Also, be sure to check with him or us to make sure that someone else is not already scheduled for visitation on that same day.

Here are some tips from our visit to Michael:

A. Pay particular attention to the dress code in both the official guide and the unofficial guide. Ladies, do not wear pants that have double zippered pockets (it sets off the metal detector) or wear tops that plunge in the neckline any more than a typical mans (non-V-neck) undershirt would. Men, do not wear the colors of the prisoners or of the guards (brown/blue). To play it safe, bring an extra set of clothes with you in case they decide yours are not conforming. There is a facility that also will lend you clothes next to the parking lot.

B. When you arrive at Donovan, park in the Visitors Parking area to the left. Then, walk to the area designated (on the ground) for the bus pick up. The area now has a canvass canopy to wait under. The buses run regularly. You will be given a form to fill out as you get on the bus. You can fill it out when you get to the check-in building. You do not need to bring a pen or pencil.

C. There are some lockers, but it is best to leave everything in your car. You can take one key with you. Be sure to bring your drivers license.

D. Bring at least 40 one dollar bills per person for food and drink. $40 per visitor is the maximum allowed. Everything is expensive.

E. You MUST have his prison ID number: F69095

F. Then, get in line on the left to check in. Once the guard clears you, you can get in the appropriate line to the right to go through the metal detector. It is just like security at the airport.

G. But, before you go through security, if you want pictures taken with Michael, you must buy a $2.00 token at the main check-in reception vending machine. You cannot come back to buy one later. Be sure to put the two one dollar bills into the same slot.

H. It can take as long as an hour to get through check-in, security, be transported on yet another bus to the visitation building and for Michael to be brought in. So, if you have an 11:30 appointment, be in the parking lot by 10:30.

I. As soon as you are admitted to the visitation building, go to the guard desk behind the glass. He will take your paperwork and tell you which visitation room you are assigned to. After entering the assigned visitation room, go the elevated guard desk to inquire as to which table you have been assigned to.

J. Watch for the "food man" to place your order for a meal, if you so desire. He will be located near the prisoners entrance, where the menus are displayed on the wall. There are also many vending machines for drinks and for some foods. Michael likes salads and lots of avocados and tomatoes.

K. Visitation is over promptly at 2:30 PM, Saturdays, Sundays and major holidays.

L. You can make appointments, and we recommend that you do.

M. The guards at Donovan are very friendly and helpful.
